SMARTGRID

SIRA has been a pioneer in the field of SMARTGRID (Intelligent Electrical Network) systems and solutions. Since 2010, it has been developing concepts, requirements, and systems capable of addressing the typical energy challenges of developing countries, where the electrical grid is either non-existent or of poor quality, forcing a significant reliance on generators.

With all the consequences in terms of costs, pollution, fuel smuggling, and the growth of a specialized mafia in diesel supply.

deserto

The first system was installed in Pakistan in 2009 for the power supply of a Base Transceiver Station.

Among the various innovations introduced by SIRA, one of the most important was considering electrical loads and electricity sources as belonging to the same DOMAIN. The system’s supervision and control are not limited to energy sources, including renewables, but also extend to the supervision and control of electrical loads, applying concepts based on the inverse energy pyramid. This approach requires dynamic optimizations.

The second major innovation was overcoming the distinction between ONGRID and OFFGRID systems with a solution capable of operating in both situations: the NANOGRID.

torreThe goal is to power user electrical loads to ensure the highest quality level at the lowest cost through a UNIVERSAL solution that can be used whether the electrical grid is of high quality or completely absent.

System Architecture

The distinction between ONGRID systems, designed for connection to power grids, and OFFGRID systems, intended for use in areas without an electrical grid, has been eliminated with the new concept of SIRA NANOGRID: Nanosira, which operates seamlessly as both OFFGRID and ONGRID. It adds voltage stabilization, absolute continuity, and the ability to use any available energy source: power grid, generator, solar panels, and wind turbine, with intermediate storage and mathematical optimization functions on both the production and consumption sides.

The solution is modular and designed based on power, reliability, and energy quality objectives, with a version also available for high mobility.

It is redundant and highly reliable and resilient.

This architecture, combined with the use of highly reliable power electronics, allows the SIRA NANOGRID to meet needs requiring extremely high availability, typical of critical infrastructure power supply.

Multiple versions allow its application in a broad market, from advanced solutions for the Armed Forces to vertical market solutions such as telecommunications systems, milk refrigeration, and commercial versions aimed at critical infrastructures such as small server farms, satellite antennas, hospitals, water pumps, and more.

These specializations are possible thanks to the computer that regulates and controls all system functions, integrating SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) specialized for energy, along with the EMS (Energy Manager System) for energy flow management and optimization.

Some versions of the Nanogrid

NAT – Advanced Tactical Nanogrid

A version of the SIRA Nanogrid designed for critical electrical loads that require power with extremely high quality and availability.

NAT

Availability refers to the availability of the required energy at a specific moment or period for a particular purpose and is measured as:

formula

For critical infrastructures, the typical benchmark availability ranges from 99.999% (“five nines”) to 99.9999% (“six nines”).

DOD

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) mandates the design and installation of primary and backup power systems, including emergency, standby, and critical operations power systems, as well as the necessary infrastructure, equipment, and fuel to support critical energy requirements.

The mobile solution can deliver 6 or 12 KVA, while for higher power needs, the Nanogrid is housed in a mini-container.

explo

As storage, lead-carbon accumulators are used, a hybrid between lead-acid batteries and supercapacitors, classified as NON-HAZARDOUS CARGO. They can be transported by air, operate within a broad temperature range, and do not pose a fire risk even if hit by bullets, unlike lithium accumulators.

Solar panels are mounted on synthetic material supports for outdoor use under all weather conditions. They are resistant to acids and ultraviolet rays, stackable for transport, each base weighs less than 5 kg, and they can be installed in minutes using just a hex key.

sungrip

The specific layout allows installation on any flat surface using ballast, ground stakes, or concrete bolts. Configurations such as 4×2, 2×4, or 1×8 panels minimize power loss due to shading compared to traditional layouts.

Fluid dynamics simulations indicate that using 2x1m solar panels, the structure can withstand winds up to 33 m/sec with a 10 kg ballast.

Nanotelco

In emerging countries, it is common for telecommunications infrastructures, such as base transceiver stations or switches, to be powered by diesel generators due to an unstable or absent power grid.

Nanotelco fully integrates with any BTS and existing equipment without component replacement.

Nanotelco minimizes electricity costs, requiring a lower investment than traditional hybrid systems, while offering reliability exceeding industry standards.

Even under severe load-shedding conditions (12+ hours/day), Nanotelco avoids diesel generator use by relying solely on eight 420W solar panels (for 2G and 3G).

Continuous network and node monitoring ensures timely anomaly and power loss detection through an optional remote telemetry and monitoring system (RMCS) using AES-256 bit encryption.

RMCS – Remote Monitoring and Command System

torre tlc

The RMCS platform is fully connected to the supervision and control system, providing a complete remote monitoring and control solution via a secure, bidirectional communication channel.

Data is accessible from any browser on a PC or smartphone.

The system allows inventory visualization, power system parameters analysis, diagnostics, and remote maintenance guidance. All power alarms are displayed in near real-time on the browser.

Nanochiller – Cold Chain Refrigeration

milk chiller

NANOGRID refrigeration solutions (cold storage, milk chillers, etc.), available in full-solar or hybrid versions, ensure compliance with international food safety standards and reduce or eliminate diesel generator use where the power grid is unavailable.

With NANOGRID technology, refrigeration can now be adopted by small farmer cooperatives, enabling local development and value creation through milk collection centers, allowing even small-scale farmers to produce, store, and sell milk hygienically.

Nanopump – Solar and Submersible Pumps

Submersible-Pump-for-Agriculture-300x200

SIRA models predict water output based on pump type, water table depth, and climatic conditions.

Using VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) technology, submersible pumps adjust flow according to available power, enabling direct solar panel connection, with variable water output throughout the day.

Nanocor – Corrosion Protection Nanogrid

Gas&Oil2

Cathodic protection (CP) controls metal surface corrosion. Pipelines, often crossing entire countries through remote areas, require autonomous power sources. Diesel generators are costly and difficult to maintain, making Nanocor the optimal solution, with or without a generator.

Nanopetrol – Service Station Power Solutions

PetrolStation2

SIRA’s energy audit and conservation process help gas stations maintain operations during load-shedding, with a dedicated Nanogrid version capable of handling normal and critical loads, storing energy, and enhancing efficiency through optimized lighting solutions.
